European Union (EU), 2019/1009 Fertilizer Product Safety

The European Union (EU) adopted the Fertilizer Products Regulation 2019/1009 on 5 June 2019. This regulation regulates the safety, quality and labeling of fertilization products placed on the EU market.

Within the framework of the harmonization of the European Parliament and Council (EU) 2019/1009/EU EU Fertilization Products Regulation with the Turkish legislation, the "Draft Regulation Evaluation Meeting" was held in Antalya on 08-11 February 2022, with the participation of academics, expert representatives from relevant institutions and industry representatives.

Why Are Fertilization Products Used?

Fertilization products are used to improve plant growth and increase productivity. The need for food in the world has made all agricultural activities much more important. Fertilizer products are also a part of these agricultural activities.

Fertilizer Products Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 requires fertilization products placed on the EU market to meet the following safety requirements:

**It should not be dangerous for humans, animals and the environment.

**When applied as necessary, it should provide the nutrients that plants need.

Fertilizer products covered by the Fertilizer Products Regulation (EU) 2019/1009 must be tested by a notified body and marked with the CE mark. The CE marking indicates that the product meets the relevant safety, quality and labeling requirements.

In Turkey, there are approved organizations that provide CE certification services for fertilization products within the scope of the (EU) 2019/1009 Fertilizer Products Regulation. These organizations test fertilization products and prepare the necessary documents for the CE marking.
